Darren Crook / Presenter

Darren Crook shows

Darren started in radio by being involved in the early stages of a local community radio project in 1995 to test the want and need for such a thing in the Forest of Dean. He created shows, ideas, and formats ranging from The Spectacular to The Eclectic Breakfast, and forged links with the local music scene through the show he is most well known for, White Labelled City, which was initially the brainchild of a local DJ and musician.

Whilst not on air, Darren helped the project by promoting its core aims and making it accessible to the public via administration. He also delivered a number of training workshops for various age groups, as well as assisting with outside broadcasts. Darren learnt a great deal and gained valuable experience through his HNC radio and broadcasting training at Stroud College, where he was given work experience with the BBC at a local level and in commercial radio at a national level.

Since the demise of FOD Radio, Darren has worked briefly on White Labelled Radio (again promoting unsigned music) and the replacement for FOD Radio, Triangle Radio. Since 2014, Darren has been a regular contributor to Arms Forces Station, BFBS and their Catterick Garrison division in North Yorkshire, discussing the latest movie releases.

In 2016, Darren got involved with Radio Beacon Online, where he was responsible for bringing in a worldwide roster of talent to create a diverse and wide-reaching schedule that appealed to radio listeners who wanted to hear a specific genre of music at a time when ordinary mainstream stations were unlikely to touch it. Whilst keeping a focus on unsigned and emerging artists to make Beacon in the process one of the best places on the Internet to source out new bands and great music.

Both of Darren’s shows that he started on Radio Beacon Online can now be heard on DFM. They are The Ultimate Music Stash which is on every Monday at 8pm and then Celluloid Street, which gets broadcasts every Wednesday at 6pm ** all times are UK TIME **

The Ultimate Music Stash, every Monday night at 8.00, plays the best new and current mainstream music. The show also includes the ever-popular feature, The Unsigned Music Basement, which focuses on a wide range of emerging bands and unsigned artists. They are subsequently invited to submit material via darren782@hotmail.com, via social media @theheadlessdj, or via the DFM website. * no Google Drive files or Spotify links. WeTransfer or Dropbox are fine though *

Darren has a love and knowledge of movies like no other. Celluloid Street tries to deliver on Darren’s passion and love of movies by picking out the latest releases, diving through classic movie soundtracks, and rounding the show out with the hottest movie gossip he can find. Celluloid Street is broadcast every Wednesday evening at 6.00.

Darren has brought back White Labelled City, but via a different approach. Although the focus still remains on emerging bands and unsigned artists, this show goes out at 9pm on Thursday nights. The newer version of White Labelled City came about after some of the old shows were broadcast, and a rather successful retrospective edition of the show was aired too.
